morning. still on the cool side we're looking at the reason for it in the bay area. 39 in pleasanton. if you're in oakland at the running festival this morning it's 46 degrees. today will be the warmest day of the week. sunny skies in the afternoons and a few degrees warmer than will we saw yesterday. changes are on the way. rain is returned to the forecast. details are coming later. >> in developing news. the fatal violence at a virginia has a bay area that the gunman and one victim are from the bay area. kron 4's mike pelton is in the newsroom with more details on the shooter and his victims. >> the marine corps identified the alleged sergeant eusebio lopez, a 25-year-old marine from pacifica. he was a tactics candidates school and a machine gunner. he joined the marines in 2006 and has more than 10 awards. he served in both iraq and

>> lopez is accused of shooting to death corporal jacob wooley, from massechusetts. as well as lance corporal sara castromata, a 19-year-old from oakley. castromata served as a warehouse clerk and joined the marines in 2011. she has several awards. the shooting happened late thursday night at the marine base quantico in northern virginia. a commander at the base says authorities were called to the scene arpound found one of the victims dead inside a barracks. they along with the body of the authorities say took his ownat this point, authorities have not yet released a possible motive for the shooting and are it and week for the marine corps. they also lost 7 marines a lot in nevada on monday. in the newsroom, mike pelton, kron 4 news.

>> new this morning.all lanes of eastbound interstate highway 580 in oakland have re-opened after an accident killed a man this morning. the c-h-p says the accident was first reported just after midnight when a man was hit by a car on highway 580 near dutton avenue. a sig-alert was issued and the three right lanes were blocked as authorities investigated., that sig-alert was lifted >> in other bay are news. a robbery in a quiet east bay neighborhood turns fatal. a man was shot and killed, of thieves from ripping off a family member. it happened in san leandro. marking the city's first homicide of the year. kron 4's phillipe djegal >> a woman was unloading some items out of her car in this driveway. on the 15-thousand 500 block of harbor way. when the san leandro police say two suspects approached her. before 9-30 fiday night and tried to rob her. moments later. the woman's son-in-law walked out of the front door and tried to intervene. police say one of the suspects then opened fire. shooting the man, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital. the woman was not injured.

police have released a vague description of the suspects.two african american's. both adults. a man and possibly a woman. investigators say they left the area in a dark colored sedan. in san leandro, philippe djegal, kron four news. >> kron4 talked to a ten year resident of that neighborhood. he says he was devastated to learn about happened to the family just a few doors away. was not, one and monte ave coleslaw are serious scenes real close as 10. kuala sentence family get- togethers. it's so sad i cannot believe that what happened. where did this come from. how did this all this happening?. why. it

felt like we are very safe here. all the neighbors look out for each other and if anything happens to everyone watches out for each other. i cannot believe that this happened. >> the victim lived in alameda, but demordaunt says the mother in law moved into the area about a year ago. and, thateveryone in that home was always polite. >> the coast guard has rescued four people after their 17-foot vessel ran aground in san francisco bay. authorities say the boat ran aground somewhere between the san mateo and dumbarton bridges on saturday. a rescue boat deployed to the scene wasn't able to get to the grounded vessel because of the shallow water and low tide, so rescuers on a helicopter hoisted the group to nearby san carlos. a child, two teenagers, a man and a dog were among >> coming up on kron 4 news weekend.we'll hear from a berkeley couple about the upcoming hearing on prop-8 that's set for this week.

>> let's take a quick look outside this morning. let's check in with meteorologist for your first forecast. , is looking pretty good so far. we have springlike weather in store for your sunday. they'll be the warmest day of the weekend. and the entire week. summer seals. a few low 70's yesterday and today more '70s on the map. we will feel an onshore breeze at the beginning of the work week. they're a few weeks systems coming in and we feel the breeze up due to that. the next chance of

rain will be by the middle of the week. have a chance to enjoy all the sunshine we have in store for today. by 12:00 this afternoon there will be a mixtures of '50s and '60s around the bay area's. it will warm up as we head into the afternoon. look all the yellow on your screen. compared to yesterday we have a lot more '70s. let's take a look of the afternoon highs treated more '70s in the south bay. if you're down on the south you are looking at low 70's. a bit cooler along the eastern shores. only getting into the upper 60s but we have warmer weather along with adults up. today is the

warmest day of the weekend. in the entire week. by monday we will see that increasing cloud cover. the next system is set to rise mid-week. we're looking anywhere from a few hundredths of an inch to a few tenths of an inch. next weekend is cooler and wet. >> it may be the first weekend of spring but winter is refusing to loosen its hold on the rockies. despite the warmer weather we've been experiencing in the bay area. much of colorado is being pummeled by a massive snow storm. this is video taken from denver. more snow is expected for the area.adding on to the ten to fifteen inches of snowfall that has already fallen. a little ways north of denver travelers along interstate 25 were stopped cold by a major crash. the colorado state police says that as many as 20 to 50 vehicles were involved in the accident.

including a semi-tanker that caught on fire. meanwhile in the eastern part of the state. white- out conditions forced the closure of nearly 150-miles of interstate 70 from denver >> meanwhile.an already soggy mess in birmingham, alabama may get worse before it gets better. rain falling over the weekend caused the flooding that you see here. but forecasters warn that the heavy snowstorm that's pounding colorado is on its way.south. bringing with it hail and heavy winds. many residents and business owners say the flooding is becoming a serious issue. >> in other national news, no one was injured after fifteen train cars went off the tracks saturday in southern virginia. four cars of them ended up in this river. according to the transportation company, one of the derailed cars was leaking a corrosive material. the train was headed from north carolina to kentucky when the accident happened. >> take a look at this.

california clearly has some roof repairs to make. his elderly neighbor lost control of his car yesterday. coming down a steep driveway, he sped across a neighbor's lawn and landed on this lower house. somehow, no one was injured in the accident. the very room underneath the damaged roof. residents tell police this driver has crashed into a neighbor's house. >> the mayor of birmingham, alabama is promising to investigate the death of a child on friday. the fifth grader was with his family at the birmingham international airport when a display board fell on him and killed him. his mother is in critical brothers are also in the hospital. the kansas family was just finishing up a beach vacation when the accident happened. airport officials held a meeting yesterday and say they still don't know what caused it. >> florida police are investigating the deaths of his student. it took search parties nearly five hours to find

the skydivers' bodies after their jump yesterday, about 30 miles northeast of tampa. the 41-year-old instructor and his 25-year-old student were part of a group of 22 from iceland. the manager of the skydive company said the chutes had automatic deployment devices and it was very unlikely they failed to open. >> more than 15-thousand runners in connecticut took victims of the sandy hook elementary school massacre. and it seems that mostly everyone has a connection to those who died that day in december. mike magnoli has more on the story singing. >> many of the

people we met in this crowd of thousands have personal connections to sandy hook. "the impact of the day, and the caring and compassion that comes from teachers that um, i think only if you're a teacher, you can truly understand." erica keena and lisa masella are both from newtown and both are teachers in neighboring districts. for these two, this run brings back memories of where they were and what they were doing on the day their hometown elementary school was attacked. "i was in lockdown in the girls lockeroom with my students." "for me this has made me say 'i love you' more, hug more and spend more time with your family." anthony cormier is wearing a tee shirt with noah pozner's picture. antony's mom and noah's mom are friends, so that's two degrees of separation between anthony and a victim. and, adding to the emotional toll, anthony is a new father: "all i can think of is my son and i don't know how i'd react if something ever happened to him. i know it's going to be emotional,

"we prepare to begin this race in support of hope and healing, we pray that you will help to remind us that this run today is part of a far greater journey for all of us." >> the runners also helped raise money for the sandy hook families foundation. >> major league baseball is also honoring the victims of sandy hook. earlier this week, the new york yankees said they'd dedicate opening day to everyone impacted by the violence. now, all the teams will do the same with opening day just over a week away. players, managers, coaches, and umpires will all wear a special ribbon patch, and the stadiums will observe a moment of silence. twenty children and six adults were killed in december at the elementary school in newtown, connecticut. the shooter opened fire after first killing his mother in their home.

>> a state-wide manhunt is underway for a man san jose police say stabbed his former girlfriend to death. this is the suspect, 29- year-old juan ramirez. investigators say he and his victim were at one point romantically involved. but since then --- a restraining order had been filed against him. the murder happened friday afternoon and police are asking for the public's help to track down the accused killer.

kron4's rob fladeboe has the >> john nguyen shared garage space with the victim, who lived with her young son in this apartment on first street and died in the parking lot after being stabbed multiple times by her ex boyfriend with what witnesses described as a butcher knife. this was that same parking lot friday evening as heavily-armed police scoured the neighborhood for the killer, who was seen jumping a fence and escaping on foot. video from our helicopter partnership with abc 7 news shows squads of police, their guns drawn, going door to door in search of a man later identified as 29-year-old juan ramirez whom they say was stalking

sandra cruces gonzales, his former girlfriend. police say gonzales had obtained a restraining order to keep ramirez away but a friend says he rebuffed her efforts to part ways and that friday was not the first time he had made unwelcome visits to her apartment. as friends and neighbors stopped by to pay their respects a family member asked for time before making any public comment. the stabbing occurred across the street from the sheriff's office and a few blocks from police headquarters, officers were

on scene within minutes but somehow ramirez managed to get away. in san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news >> homicide detectives said that ramirez may be attempting to flee to mexico. and is posibly driving a dark green, 1996 toyota t- 100 pickup truck similar to the one you see on your screen. >> marysville raceway is open again. one week after a deadly crash killed two people. saturday. the track hosted the tenth annual great taxi cab open. a race that features stock cars and super stocks equipped with wings, panels and foils that help the cars zip around the track. police say 14-year-old marcus johnson of santa rosa was in the pit area of the race track when his cousin's racecar went off the track and hit marcus and a second person. the family says that the driver. a 17-year old petaluma high school student. was like a brother to the victim. >> a lake county girl who had been missing for the past several days is now safe at a relatives house in santa rosa this morning.

jenica fredrick disappeared thursday morning from her home in cobb. she was reportedly upset about some familyy issues before she went missing. many rescue crews -- including some from the bay area -- assisted in the >> city officials may close a skate park in martinez after it was vandalized late last week. authorities say the vandalism of areas of downtown martinez and the waterfront park occurred some time between thursday evening and early friday morning. the city says the people responsible used spray paint.mostly marking the words "asher" and "y-b." most of the damage is at and around the skateboard park and is estimated between 8 and 10-thousand dollars. >> it was ten years ago when president george w bush announced the start of the u-s lead coalition attack on iraq. the first two tomahawk missiles launched from basra back on march 20th, 2003. for a night of shock and awe. since then. the world witnessed the fall and execution of saddam hussein. with thousands of military, and iraqui families losing loved ones in the war. along with trillions of dollars spent. all echoed in the >> today, many of those war veterans have come back to the u-s. only to find themselves struggling with civilian life. but there is hope. joining us this morning is a bay area marine. mike liguori. he's spent two tours in iraq and now helps veterans with their careers, and writes about veterans issues in his book, the sand box, stories of human spirit and war. welcome.

the more you start to realize that the book unfolds. you start to realize that people are actually going to read your darkest secrets. overall it was apelike changing experience for me. it started when i was a sophomore in college. there was a summer where i got bored. i always want to read a book. this is after my service. i started writing. i had no idea what i was

doing but then it all started to pour out. it went from one paragraph 210 pages and then it turned its 30 pages and it was over 80 hours a week writing. it was basically a time for me to let all-out. it saved me from myself. in 2007 i was diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder. i had no alternative forms of therapy. houses told you're gonna go talk to someone and work through your stuff. eventually you'll be better as you progress. you'll never get rid of it. fuel never be cured. for writing for me was my outlet. it helped me along with the therapy i was doing. there

are so many veterans that have come home and not felt welcomed or felt at home. why do you think that is?. heaven now welcome some home wall? no i think we have done five trading is very hard to relate to someone. i have been to war in you to happen, and when we have those life experiences, how is it for me to tell you how many is mike, war veteran i have seen combat. it is hard to relate those stories print. when veterans talked to other veterans there is an automatic connection. was there if he feared what you're there? i did not fear death, but i feared not coming home. i didn't fear

death because i accepted it. why did not fit except was that i was going to die so young. i have my friends and family, what to grow older, life experiences, but the fear of death was not there. when you were mare a marine in combat. what is the one thing we can all do to make it easier for the veterans. personal opinion about the war is about the church there still serving. there comes a organizations out there that have their niches in the veteran community.
